Roxana Bendezú

Executive Director

Roxana Bendezú was born in Lima, Perú. She migrated to the United States in 1999. In 2013 she collaborated with the Office of Migration and Refugees of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, DC to mobilize Catholic parishioners in key districts to advocate for immigrants' rights. In 2015 she accepted a position as the Associate Director for Organizing and Leadership Development at Hope Border Institute in El Paso, Texas to work on strengthening binational collaboration particularly between faith and social justice communities. Roxana has served in various organizations, including Charlotte's local Sierra Club executive committee, Democracy North Carolina board of directors and School of the America's Watch national council. She also supported the foundation of the Detained Migrant Solidarity Committee in El Paso, Texas.

Alejandra Mejía

Alejandra Mejía was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and lived in Panamá, her mother's home country, until age 11. Her family then migrated to the United States in 2005. Her politics and devotion to migrant justice are largely informed by being the daughter of a single, working-class immigrant mother. She graduated from Williams College in 2017 with a degree in Comparative Literature and a concentration in Latinx Studies and is currently an Editorial Associate at Duke University Press.

Diana Sánchez

Student Liaison at Duke University

Diana Sánchez was born and raised in North Carolina. She is a daughter of immigrants: mother from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and father from Hidalgo, Mexico. She is currently pursuing an undergraduate major in History and a minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Duke University, focusing on the history of U.S. imperialism and migration in/from the Global South.
