HASTA ENCONTRARLES: THE CARAVAN OF MOTHERS OF MISSING MIGRANTS AND ROOT CAUSES OF MIGRATION

SPEAKERS: CARAVAN OF MOTHERS OF MISSING MIGRANTS, KIRSTEN WELD, SUYAPA PORTILLO VILLEDA, JORGE E. CUÉLLAR

For the past seventeen years, the Caravan of Mothers of Missing Migrants has traveled across Mexico searching for disappeared loved ones and demanding concrete changes in migration policy. For the first time, this fall, four mothers will continue their pilgrimage into the United States. In an event moderated by Kirsten Weldmadres will engage in conversation with Suyapa Portillo Villeda and Jorge E. Cuéllar to discuss the criminalization of migration and the root causes of displacement, as well as ongoing efforts to locate the disappeared. This conversation will focus not only on the right to migrate but centers the voices of those struggling to stay and thrive in their homelands. 

ABOUT THE EVENT

This event (and the caravan) is co-organized by Migrant Roots Media, Proyecto Puentes de Esperanza and Pax Christi USA in coordination with Movimiento Migrante Mesoamericano. This event will be available in English and Spanish.

Until We Find Them: Caravana de Madres de Personas Migrantes Desaparecidas // Main Zoom event

Event name: Mothers of Disappeared Migrants

Location: Fordham Rose Hill, Our Lady's Chapel (lower level of university church)

Time: 12--1:30 pm

Description: If your child went missing, how far and for how long would you search? Mothers from Central America will be visiting Fordham to speak about the root causes of forced migration, to advocate for migrant justice, and to share their stories of searching for their disappeared children.
